I have been preparing for my BIG end of the year unit. The classroom will be transformed into a campsite.
In the past, Camping with Books has included investigations on ants, worms, and butterflies. This year we will journal about ladybugs. I have been working all week to pull together resources. Here's a sample of the Camping Alpha Line.

Holy Cow! I know I'm not the first to place a comment, but I LOVE this idea!! So I went to TPT and I realized > > > YOU LIVE HERE!!! I live on FI also!! I went to the county email to send you an email and not have you think I'm some crazy 'interneter' as my kids call it, but didn't see your name. Maybe you teach at the large district to the north of us! This is amazing!!! This blogging thing is so new to me, but I really wanted to let you know it is because of you & your student page that I started all this! I already have 3 of my student's "book reviews" on the page a made for them...all because of this site and you live here, right here!!! Wow!
{{GREAT LUCK!!}} with TPT, I did the Snoopy Dance this morning I was so happy to see my deposit! :)

PS....my students' parents love seeing the kiddos' work on the Internet...all because I found your blog...thanks, thanks, thanks again!
I saw that you were in Florida but never imagined we live on the same island! That is Amazing!! I reside in Pace and work in DCPS, specifically Oakleaf. I started a student blog after realizing how tech savy kids in 1st grade are these days. I had a website at the time and decided to start the kids blogging first. The parents went nuts!! They truly were impressed with their student's abilities. We would post journal entries or published writing. The kids have been interviewed by two North Carolina papers and published in our own county paper. They feel soooo IMPORTANT! Crazy thing, I had 6-7 kids with computers in the home at the start of first grade. The word spread and now all students have computers at home. Keep in mind, I had the same group of kids for several years. I sent a survey home at the end of the year asking parents what form of communication did they prefer. There response was BLOGS. All the information is posted as you link to the blog. With the website, they would have to search. I agree. I try to provide a one stop shop for the parents and students. Even better, I have 80% of my parents get homework electronically or through my blog! I still have a few parents without printers. I truly have have gained so much from my blogging adventures.
Wow! Wow! Wow! Your post gave me goose-bumps...I have always felt that our students can do so much more than just play games on the computer and your blog proves it! Thanks for the encouragement!
I am one stop down from you in Oak Creek, but we are building in Pine Eagle Estates behind the Vystar at 220 & 17! Small world! Have a great weekend!
